The choice of whether or not to include kids in the wedding party should be left solely to the bride and groom. They are the ones that must feel comfortable with the decision. If they choose not to include kids, this will undoubtedly bring on some conflict among the guests. In order for this conflict to remain at a minimum, the bride and groom must communicate their decision clearly, keep it fair among the guests (not allow one guest’s kids to come and not the other’s), and explain that this was based on the party and not that they hate kids. On the other hand, if the bride and groom decide to include kids at the party they must be sure to include activities to keep them busy, offer kid friendly food, and consider hiring someone to look after them so that the parents can freely enjoy the party.

Children can add that special touch to your wedding party.

They come up with the cutest remarks, do the funniest things, and look great in pictures. In other words, they can be a burst of sunshine. Yet, if you do not keep them busy they can turn in to your worst nightmare. That is why, it is tremendously important to keep them busy. One easy way, is by seating them at a special kids’ table decorated with a paper tablecloth which they can use to design along with colored crayons. Coloring books, short storybooks, and crossword puzzles can also be added. Another way to keep them busy and join in on the fun is to have intervals of kid’s only dance floors. The disc jockey should be told to periodically play kid friendly music and they will have a blast. The parents will have just as much fun watching them. Also, couples that want to give them something extra can even add some entertainment specifically geared towards children such as a clown or magician.

The young attendees may not like the fancy menus present at a wedding party.

That is why; it is a good idea to offer them food that they feel comfortable with. One good way, is by setting up a kids buffet table. Such items as pizza, chicken tenders, chips, hot dogs, and even peanut butter and jelly sandwiches could be included. Desserts can include brownies, cookies, fruit cups, and ice cream. A tally of how many kids will be attending is necessary to plan the quantity of food needed. The children’s table can be decorated in accord with the overall reception but should include balloons or something to clearly distinguish from the adult station.

It is a good idea to hire someone to supervise the younger guests. This person will help relieve a lot of the tension on the parents as well as on the newlywed couple. They could be there to simply assure that they are not misbehaving or they can take a more active role in organizing activities. He or she could serve as the judge to a coloring contest or help them design some crafty wedding gifts for the couples. He or she can also get them to sing a song for the wedding couple. Another thing to consider is setting up a room for those kids that fall asleep and assigning someone to watch them.

After a long wedding party, kids should be rewarded for their good behavior. Make sure to give them a small token of your appreciation such as a wedding favor bag designed just for kids. These could include wedding bubbles, glow sticks, sparklers, and candy.
